Almost everybody fantasises, and about much the same things
4,175 people were asked in detail. The categories are few.
The largest survey of its kind asked 4,175 Americans about their sexual fantasies in detail rather than by checkbox. Ninety-seven per cent reported having them. What surprised the researcher was not the variety but the concentration: nearly everything reported fell into a handful of themes.
Multipartner sex was the single most common, reported by around eight in ten. Power and control in some form — giving it up or taking it — came next, with a clear majority reporting at least one such fantasy. Then novelty and adventure, taboo, partner-sharing, and emotional intensity. Most people's fantasies sit in more than one category at once.
